On the morning of Sunday 25th April, 2010 I was watching BBC1, and I made a decision. In (modern) time honoured tradition, I announced this decision on my Facebook page.
That decision was to run the London Marathon by the time I was 40! Seeing as how my 40th birthday was in June 2011, I had ONE chance to fulfill this pledge. Sure enough, I missed out on the ballot for London in 2011, but as I was already in training, I tweaked that pledge: to run A marathon by the time I turned 40!
Having looked around, I decided the Paris Marathon would do the job perfectly! And so, on April 10th, 2011, I took part in my first marathon, in Paris.
I also made the decision to run in aid of charity, and, because they’d helped my father-in-law during his kidney issues, National Kidney Federation were my choice.
In the intervening years, I have run marathons in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Milan, Copenhagen, New York, Southampton, Lisbon, Valencia, Brighton, Chicago, and Geneva.
I have run in aid of National Kidney Federation, Ludotek, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Cancer Research UK, and (so far) have raised over £26,500.
I’m not stopping there, either, as this year I have run my 13th Marathon - Geneva, and 14th - Berlin - and plans are already in place for number 15 next year! ... all will be revealed soon!
